NXNE 2013: What To Do/Who To See

NXNE 2013It is that time of the year again… North by North East is here, and with it good weather and great music.

There is a lot going on this year spread about the city in pretty much every bar and concert venue in the downtown core. I am definitely going to be scrambling around all week going from venue to venue trying to catch some bands I have been wanting to see for a while and others that I’ve seen before but love so much I have to see them again.

I strongly suggest downloading the App for iPhone or Android (Download for free here) because, with it, you can go through their list of artists and ‘Favourite’ them which adds them into your iCalender [iPhone] and you can set up an advance warning system so it will send you a notification before an event or artist goes on. It really helps when you are wasted and can’t remember what you’re supposed to be doing… I always know what I am doing…?

I also strongly suggest attending any of the awesome Audio Blood parties going on around the city. Myself, for one, will be going to the #Pledgendary Summer Rager.

Here are some bands that I think you should most definitely check out:

Icelandic Mondays w/ Árstíðir

Árstíðir is from Iceland? No way! This is my second last week of Icelandic Mondays before I go on the grand voyage across the Atlantic. For today we are talking about these guys. I chose them because they are described as having a traditional Icelandic sound, especially in their vocals. This is interesting to me because their music is very reminiscent of Celtic songs from the East coast of Canada. Although I guess Iceland and Canada do share a Celtic connection through history.

Give them a listen and hopefully you will enjoy it. This is a bit different from other music I post.
