“We, we, so excited!” as our dear friend Rebecca Black would say. Coming up… NEXT WEEK is the long awaited for Canadian Music Week. I for one, plan on being a very busy bee and think you should come spend time with me at The Gladstone Hotel on Thursday, March 21st, for an awesome event by BRBR (TFO).
Here is some info about BRBR and the event:
This is the first time that such an impressive array of French-speaking artists have appeared in concert during Canadian Music Week, and it will be the only event of its kind during this year’s six-day edition of the festival.
As David Baeta, series producer for BRBR, explains, “Our goal at BRBR is to showcase emerging Francophone and Francophile musical talent from Canada while creating a community of people who love this kind of music. Hosting an event like this as part of Canadian Music Week is one of the ways that we deliver on our commitment to the Canadian independent music scene.”
Peter Peter (Audiogram , Montreal), will present songs from Une version améliorée de la tristesse, which was named Francophone album of the year by iTunes Canada in 2012 and placed 8th in the CMJ Top 20 new albums charts for college radio airplay.

Eight and a Half (Arts & Crafts, Toronto) features Montrealers Dave Hamelin and Liam O’Neil of The Stills and Toronto drummer Justin Peroff from Broken Social Scene. The trio will be performing songs with a pop-rock sensibility and an electro tinge from their album Eight and a Half, released in spring 2012. (“This debut is good — very good — hinting that Eight and a Half are on the precipice of something great.”- Travis Persaud, Exclaim!)
Karim Ouellet (Abuzive Muzik, Quebec City) offers a spectacularly successful marriage of soul, pop, electro, folk, and rock with the easy assurance of a seasoned musician. He was a finalist at the Granby International Francophone Song festival in 2009 and the Francouvertes competition for emerging Canadian Francophone musicians in 2011. He also won the award for Pop Album of the Year at GAMIQ, Quebec’s alternative awards for independent music, in 2011. His second album, Fox, is currently enjoying great success both on the charts and in the critical press. (★★★★ – Voir) (8/10 – Bande à part)
Claude Munson (Up & Up Records, Ottawa) is a singer-songwriter whose musical style falls in the alternative/folk/roots camp. His group, Claude Munson & The Storm Outside, consists of Claude and three other musicians from the Ottawa/Gatineau area. Claude’s singing voice is melodious, unique, and mysterious. He accompanies himself on acoustic and hollow-body electric guitar. The group’s first album, Claude Munson & The Storm Outside, came out in Fall 2012 on the Up & Up label. It was co-produced by the label’s founder, Phil Lafrenière, drummer/percussionist for The Souljazz Orchestra.
Here is an awesome video that they recently filmed while in session with Les Hay Babies.
